This is where you will be shared the life of The Gentle Giant, Robert Wadlow from Alton, Illinois. Robert was born to Addie Johnson and Harold Wadlow in Alton, Illinois on February 22, 1918, he was the oldest of five children. During elementary school, they had to make a specialized desk for him, due to his size. Robert was also the world's tallest Boy Scout. In 1936, after graduating from Alton High School, he enrolled in Shurtleff College with the intention of studying law. By the time he had graduated from college, he was 2.51 meters (8 ft 3 in).


Later Robert's body size began to take its toll, he required leg braces to walk, and had little feeling in his legs and feet, but despite these, he never used a wheelchair.
Robert was also a celebrity, he was a well-known artist due to his participations in tours and public appearances, though only in his normal street clothes. His shoes were provided to him free of charge by a shoe company for which he did promotional work and appearances. I even heard that Robert's shoes examples still exist in several locations throughout the US, including Snyder's Shoe Store of Ludington and Manistee, Michigan, and the Alton Museum of History and Art, that must be huge, and it is indeed huge, check out the picture below.

The Death of Robert Wadlow as The Tallest Man On Earth Ever

One year before his death, Robert Wadlow passed John Rogan as the tallest person ever.
On June 27, 1940, which was eighteen days before his death, he was measured at 2.72 meters (8 ft 11.1 in) by C. M. Charles and Cyril MacBryde, who are the doctors of Washington University in St. Louis.
It was a faulty brace which irritated Robert's ankle, causing a blister and subsequent infection on July 4, 1940, during a professional appearance at the Manistee National Forest Festival. Doctors treated him with a blood transfusion and emergency surgery, but his condition worsened, and on July 15, 1940, he died in his sleep at age 22.

More than 30,000 people attended Robert's funeral on July 19. He was buried in a 10-foot-long (3.0 meters), half-ton coffin that required twelve pallbearers to carry and was interred in a vault of solid concrete. It was believed that Wadlow's family members were concerned for the sanctity of his body after his death, and wanted to ensure it would not be disturbed or stolen.
